Internship and placements are work experience obtained during the undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Students can be placed into a local or overseas company or organisation. While internship can be a graduation requirement or embedding with graduate attributes, it can also be linked with professional accreditiation. Business Internship Experience at the University of Boston
The University of Boston provides overseas internship opportunities for business students to work in different locations around the world. The course is a combination of workshops and authentic working experience in which business partners, internship experts and professors closely monitor students' performance and provide support to students whenever necessary. Two highlights in its assessment approach are a simulated "elevator pitch" and a mock interview. Students are assessed on their impromptu ability to communicate with others professionally, to think critically and quickly, and to respond to unprepared situations with ease.

Assessing Practicum in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University
Master of Public Health students gain hands-on experience by working in policy, education, communities or health services fields at a designated workplace abroad. The competency-based field work allows students to develop skills such as interpersonal communication, professional conduct, efficiency at work, and teamwork. Students identify their own competencies for evaluation by the preceptors.

Assessing Internship in the Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University
The Social Sciences Internship (SSI) is an internship module that allows social science undergraduates to work at a government or non-government organization for a semester. The assessment conducted by both the university and partner organization includes work attitude, core competencies and service quality. Supervisors can give feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of students.

Assessing Humanities Internship at the University of Otago
As an elective for undergraduate students, the internship practicum enables students to work at a partner organization of the university for eight hours per week, for thirteen weeks. Expected learning outcomes of the course is generated and agreed on between the student, the university and the partner organisation. The course enables students to develop a range of personal and interpersonal skills, and gain workplace experience.

Assessing Engineering Students' Industry Experience at Macquarie University
Students in the Industry Experience (ENGG400) course of Macquarie University have to complete at least twelve weeks of relevant work experience, which combines academic and industry supervision. The internship is linked with professional accreditiation, and embeds training and learning outcomes of expected graduate attributes of the university. Development of professional techniques and skills, along with awareness of issues in the workplace and professional conduct through the internship allows students to build necessary career skills and networks.

Accrediting & Assessing Business Internships at the National University of Singapore
This case demonstrates an internship course with learning objectives elected by the student with guidance from the Workplace Supervisor at the beginning of the internship. Emphasis on the development of holistic competencies is explicitly stated in the internship guidelines. Reflection is encouraged with the requirement of learning journals and a final report of student experience. With an Intern Performance Review Form, evaluation is elicited on competencies of the student, particularly technical skills, communication skills, leadership potential, confidence, teamwork ability, creativity, and so on.
