About AR@HKU

This project "Assessment resources at HKU" was proposed by Dr. Cecilia Chan from CETL HKU and was supported by Prof. Michael Prosser, the executive director of CETL and Prof. Esmonde Corbet from the Faculty of Dentistry and the chairperson of the University Assessment Sub-committee. It is currently funded by the University Teaching Development Grant.

This project was initiated due to the number of key changes in Hong Kong education. These include the introduction and adaptation of OBASL; the national curriculum reform "3+3+4"; an increasingly diverse student background and experience entering higher education; the potential of technologies to assess learning and to provide speedy feedback; the growing demand of employer on generic skills and the need to enhance student learning. All these require changes in the way we assess our students, as it is no secret that how and what students learn is driven by assessment.

Objectives

  2. To provide support in the design and development of assessment for HKU teachers towards the curriculum reform for on-going quality assurance and improvement of assessment
  3. To heighten the awareness of the importance of assessment, both formative and summative and to allow transparency and clarity in assessing students
  4. To build link and collaboration across the university communities
  5. To identify, collect and disseminate good practices in assessment to enhance better student learning
  6. To explore and research new ways for assessment in generic skills, in technological possibilities and to reduce plagiarism and others changing nature
